Choosing a school for your child is a definitely defined as a “Biggie" in thresholds of you child's life.  Here is a few pointers to think about:

  • Location
  • Fee’s
  • Reputation

The UAE wonderfully multi-cultural so you should definitely ask what is the school’s or nurseries attitude towards  LANGUAGE LEARNING.  Are they embracing this multicultural country and world or are they choosing to say our forte is in our “British/American/Montessori etc. “Curriculum and that is it!

If language does matter (which we hope it does) then you should be asking these questions:

  • Do you want your child educated in more than one language?

  • Do you want your child to be able to read and write in each language?

  • Is the Nursery/School open to language acquisition?
  • Do they offer languages as part of their curriculum or as extra that you need to pay for?
  • Are the teacher’s native speakers? Where are they from? What’s is their training?
  • Which techniques do they use to invite children to speak languages?
  • How many children in the school are majority language native speaker?
  • How many hours per week/day do they offer languages?
  • What are your objectives with regards to the second language?
  • Which methodology do you use to teach the second language?
  • WHAT is the definition of a Bilingual/ Immersion Education?

  • Bilingual education involves teaching academic content in two languages, in a native and secondary language with varying amounts of each language used in accordance with the program model.
  • Language immersion or simply immersion, is a technique used in bilingual language education in which two languages are used for instruction in a variety of topics, including math, science, or social studies. The languages used for instruction are referred to as the L1 and the L2 for each student, with L1 being the native language of the student and L2 being the second language to be acquired through immersion programs and techniques.

  • Children are so much more skilled at picking up a second language than adults
  • The earlier a child is exposed to a second language the better the child does in that language
  • The brain changes during the teen years making it impossible for an adult to learn a language the same way that a child does
  • A young child will generally understand more words than they use in general speech
  • Children do not learn language by having an adult continually asking them to name items
  • Children learn languages by hearing words and linking them to "things"
  • We believe this is best done through play, laughter and song - download our free guide to learn more
